February 2011 – Hangar One Vodka, America’s most innovative micro-distillery, is proud to announce the return of their famous Chipotle Vodka. Created by Hangar One founder Jorg Rupf and master distiller Lance Winters, Hangar One Chipotle Vodka is distilled in single batches and carefully blended to create a complex, rounded ode to the chipotle pepper.

Each limited batch of Chipotle Vodka is crafted by Lance Winters through both distillation and infusion. He believes that “balance is the key to capturing the potent flavors of fresh peppers. The whole thing should have the sweetness and substance of nicely smoked meat, the vegetal qualities of a fresh pepper, and just the right amount of heat.” To achieve this, jalapeños are marinated in a variety of spices and smoked for several hours over apple, cherry and hickory wood, creating an exceptional chipotle pepper that is used in the original distillation of the spirit. Next, the vodka is infused with a combination of smoked bell and Anaheim peppers, fresh habaneros, and pasilla chilies. Each pepper was sourced by C&L Produce of Oakland, CA and smoked by talented friends at T-Rex Barbecue in Berkeley, CA.

“Our Chipotle Vodka is a labor of love,” said Lance. “We created this flavor to honor the Bloody Mary, one of my favorite cocktails, but it also works well on its own, over ice. The nose has a soft, sweet smoke with light spice that builds on each sip.” It is also the third addition to their Tasting Room Series, a limited-edition group that also includes Spiced Pear and Fraser River Raspberry.

Unlike the standard, mass-produced flavored vodkas, Hangar One Vodka is dedicated to European methods of distillation that have been trusted for centuries. Their hands-on production methods allow them to focus all of their energy on one batch at a time, and that results in a unique and high-quality spirit.
